Thurrock Council's public electric vehicle charge points are delivered with Connected Kerb. This guide summarises what the council publishes on its electric vehicles page. It covers council on-street and car park chargers. It does not cover private chargers at supermarkets, shopping centres or stations.

Who runs the chargers?

The council names Connected Kerb as the provider. It says the Gecko charge points have a low visual impact, can charge one or two vehicles and use recycled materials. The council's page states that from December 2024 there would be 66 charge points in place across the borough. It also describes a smart charging feature that lets you schedule charging at off-peak times when rates are lower.

Where are the council chargers?

The page lists ten locations, each at 7kW:

  • Grays: Argent Street; Station Approach; Thames Road; Orsett Road
  • South Ockendon: Canterbury Parade; Daiglen Drive
  • East Tilbury: Princess Margaret Road
  • Corringham: Gordon Road
  • Aveley: New Maltings
  • Tilbury: Calcutta Road

The number of bays varies from two at the smaller sites to between 10 and 14 at the larger ones, according to the council's table.

What do 7kW chargers mean for me?

A 7kW charger is a slower, top-up or overnight type of charger. It is suited to people without a driveway or to longer stops. If you need a fast charge on a long journey, you will need to look elsewhere, as the council's page does not list rapid chargers.

How much does it cost?

The council's page does not give tariff prices. Check the Connected Kerb app or the label on the charger and the council's page for current pricing.

I do not have a driveway. Can I charge at home?

The council's EV page links to separate guidance on charging without a driveway and on cross-pavement charging solutions, plus strategy documents. Read these before running a cable across a pavement.

Do car park charges apply while I charge?

Some chargers are in council car parks, such as Argent Street in Grays and Canterbury Parade in South Ockendon, where parking charges can apply. See our parking guide.
