Thurrock Leisure Centres and Swimming Pools: Blackshots, Corringham, Belhus Park and Storm
Which leisure centres and pools serve Grays, Corringham, Stanford-le-Hope and South Ockendon, what each says it has, who runs them and how to book.
Thurrock Council lists three swimming-pool leisure centres: Blackshots in Grays with a 33m pool, Corringham Leisure Centre with a 25m pool, and Belhus Park in South Ockendon with a 25m pool. It links to Impulse Leisure for each. Storm Fitness and Leisure in Grays has no pool listed. Bookings can be made at reception, online or through the Impulse app.

Which leisure centres does the council list?
Thurrock Council's leisure centres page lists three centres run under the Impulse Leisure name, which it links to for more information, and one other sports site.
Blackshots leisure centre, Grays. Blackshots Lane, Grays, RM16 2JU, phone 01375 375 533. The council describes it as a 5-minute drive from Grays town centre, open to members and non-members, with:
- a 33m swimming pool, a teaching pool for lessons and a splash pool for toddlers
- a health suite with sauna and steam room, and sunbeds
- a fitness suite, Kinesis Studio and Power Plates
- a group exercise studio and a group cycling studio
- a cafe
Impulse Leisure's Blackshots page adds that it shares its grounds with the Civic Hall, a theatre venue, and says the fitness suite opening hours differ from the centre's own hours.
Corringham leisure centre, Corringham. Springhouse Road, Corringham, SS17 7NB, phone 01375 678 070. The council puts it in the heart of Corringham town centre, open to members and non-members, with a 25m pool, a teaching pool, a health suite, sunbeds, a fitness suite, a group exercise studio, a spinning studio and a meeting room for hire. The Impulse page lists a main pool and teaching pool, a health suite with sauna and steam room and meeting room hire.
Belhus Park golf and country club, South Ockendon. Belhus Park, South Ockendon, RM15 4PX, phone 01708 856 297. The council says it is open to members and non-members and lists an 18-hole floodlit golf course and driving range covering 46 acres, a 25m pool, a teaching pool, a fitness suite, group exercise and group cycling studios, a cafe, a licensed bar and a function room. The Impulse page describes it as a leisure centre in South Ockendon with a golf course.
Storm fitness and leisure, Grays. Chadwell Road, Grays, RM17 5TD, phone 01375 898 613, email info@stormfit.co.uk. The council says it was previously Palmer's Sport Centre and lists a fitness suite, sports hall, all-weather astro turf pitch, grass football pitch, floodlit tennis and netball courts and squash courts. No pool is listed.
The council's page does not list a centre in Tilbury, Stanford-le-Hope, Purfleet-on-Thames, Chafford Hundred or Aveley.
How do I book?
Impulse Leisure's booking page says you can book at reception, online or via its app, and that online and app bookings can be made 24 hours a day. For classes it says:
- platinum members can book 8 days in advance
- standard members can book 7 days in advance
- non-members can book 7 days in advance, and must book in advance because payment is required
Its centre pages also link to swimming lessons, timetables and membership options, and its swimming section links to centre swimming timetables.
